Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

A major earthquake in Istanbul could leave 10,000 people homeless

More than 300 buildings in Turkish Istanbul, in which about 10,000 people live, can instantly collapse during an earthquake. This was warned by the deputy secretary general of the mayor’s office of the city of Bugra Gokce.

Scientists warn of tremors threatening Istanbul. This is due to the fact that the major city is located at the junction of the Eurasian and Anatolian tectonic plates. With seismic activity, around 318 buildings could collapse there.

Gokce stressed that their residents will be evacuated to more earthquake-resistant homes. The municipal authorities compensate them for the cost of renting the apartments. In addition, another 1,525 buildings are included in the high-risk group, reports the DHA.
