Blinken visits Germany, Turkey and Greece on the eve of the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken begins his European tour on Friday by attending the Munich Security Conference. He will also visit Turkey and Greece on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine .

The three-day Munich Security Conference opens on Friday.

The annual conference will notably bring together US Vice President Kamala Harris, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Chinese diplomat Wang Yi.

In Munich, Blinken has several meetings scheduled to discuss additional support for Ukraine, as well as aid for Turkey and the Syrian people affected by a powerful earthquake, the State Department said.

As Ukraine prepares for another major Russian offensive, Western leaders attending the conference are expected to reaffirm their commitment to supporting Kiev.

A senior State Department official said the United States is working on a major aid package to be announced around the first anniversary of the Russian invasion.

It is also possible to announce a new package of sanctions against Russia.
