The head of the Italian government will visit Kiev until February 24

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni travels to Kiev on Monday to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy .Meloni, who took office in October, said she plans to travel to Kiev before Feb. 24, the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to a person familiar with the matter on Sunday.Despite friction over the issue within Italy’s ruling coalition and divided public opinion, Meloni remains firm in his support for Ukraine.Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the conservative Forza Italia party, which is part of Meloni’s coalition, said last week that he blamed the Ukrainian president for the war with Russia and that if he was Meloni, he wouldn’t meet Zelenskyyy.The European People’s Party (EPP), of which Forza Italia is a member, announced on Friday that it was canceling a June event in Naples due to Berlusconi’s comments on Ukraine.Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, one of the founders of Forza Italia, said on Saturday he met Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on the sidelines of the G7 meeting in Munich and assured him of the support of the Italy.Italy and France have recently completed negotiations on the supply of modern air defense systems to Kiev.
