National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby told Fox on Sunday that the United States would support Ukraine “as long as it takes.”The announcement came after Republican Senator James David Vance of Ohio urged President Joe Biden to develop an urgent plan to end the conflict in Ukraine in the interest of US national security.“As part of the war, Congress allocated billions to Ukraine in additional security aid more than a month ago. When President Biden signed this bill into law, he promised that his administration would submit a report detailing our financial commitment to this dispute. His administration grossly ignored its own commitment to transparency yesterday, Vance said in a statement posted on his website. “Before President Biden spends another taxpayer dollar on Ukraine, he must present a clear plan to end the conflict in a way that is in the interest of our national security. More carte blanche. It’s high time the president told the American people how this is all going to end.”“We would like this to end now,” Kirby told Fox on Sunday. ” As[le président Biden]said it…we will support Ukraine for as long as it takes, and that’s what he really wants. As many as you need.””First of all, there was no carte blanche,” Kirby said. “Everything we’ve sent to Ukraine has been sent after extensive consultations with Congress, and we have indeed received incredible bipartisan support…we…expect that to continue.”Recall that since Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, the United States has sent over $113 billion in support to Kiev.
