Russian President Vladimir Putin’s message was changed the day before the speech. On this subject informed Andrey Kolesnikov, special correspondent for Kommersant. This caught the attention of the publication “Agency”.
“Even the day before, the message, according to information from Kommersant, was designed for 1 hour and 20 minutes, but changes were made to the text at night, extending it by another twenty minutes,” the journalist wrote.
Kolesnikov did not provide details.
Press secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov on the morning of February 21 said that Putin’s message will last about an hour. As a result, it lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes.
At the end of the speech, Putin announced that Russia was suspending its participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START III). He described this decision as forced, explaining it, among other things, by the fact that other nuclear powers continue to develop their nuclear weapons.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg regretted Putin’s decision. He urged the Kremlin to reconsider it.
Russian Foreign Ministry declared that the decision to suspend Russia’s participation in the treaty is reversible. To do this, according to the Russian department, the United States must show “political will, make good faith efforts for general de-escalation”.
