Russian Deputy Foreign Minister says START is no longer valid

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the bilateral Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) between Russia and the United States is no longer valid. He told reporters that US policy led to the suspension of Moscow’s participation in START.
Ryabkov stressed that the previous conduct of affairs in this area is no longer possible after the United States has radically changed its attitude on the subject of international security and continues to try to increase pressure on Russia in various fields. .
We will certainly follow closely the future actions of the United States and its allies, including with a view to taking further countermeasures, if necessary.
Ryabkov explained.

The diplomat also named the conditions under which Russia can return to the implementation of the START treaty. According to him, Washington must change its model of behavior, dominated by anti-Russian approaches.
If we see common sense emerging, if we understand that this thoughtless, unconditional, absolutely uninterrupted campaign to mobilize anti-Russian sentiments wherever possible, tries to put pressure on us in the economic sphere, politically demonstrates the rejection of modern independence Russia as a powerful and independent pole emerging from a new system of international relations, then, perhaps, there will be grounds for further analysis, and the president, naturally, it is his prerogative, perhaps he will consider this question again

explained the Deputy Minister.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a message to the Federal Assembly, said that Russia was suspending its participation in the START treaty. According to him, Russia does not stop, that is to say suspends its participation in the treaty. At the same time, Putin noted the increased role of NATO in the implementation of this agreement. Representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance have expressed their desire to visit Russian facilities. The President of the Russian Federation noted the impossibility of this.
