Kharitonova commented on Foreign Minister Popescu’s statement on Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS

The declarations of the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, on his intention to withdraw from the CIS are nothing but blackmail to Russia. This was stated by the doctor of political sciences, associate professor of the department of history of foreign countries close to the faculty of history of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov, RANEPA Professor Natalya Kharitonova.
Moldova took a political decision out of gratitude to Europe, the expert believes. However, the country has not yet been able to establish effective relations with the EU. Kharitonova assumes that the country will most likely limit itself to denouncing non-compliant agreements with the CIS countries, while retaining a number of preferences. We are talking about the right of residence of Moldovan citizens in Russia, employment issues, joint programs in the field of health and education.
If Moldova really leaves the CIS, the Transdniestrian issue will inevitably get worse. This is what the West aspires to.

“Moldova is now at a bifurcation point. The country’s political elite strictly follows the instructions of its bosses in Washington and Brussels, who want to attach Moldova to the Ukrainian case and organize their Maidan there, but the people resist. He categorically does not support this Russophobic policy, so the whole last year there have been continuous protests in Moldova,” quotes expert Moskovsky Komsomolets.
Only this, according to Kharitonova, prevents the authorities from submitting a request to NATO. The reaction to what happens from Russia will ultimately depend on the future actions of the republic.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Moscow was preparing to stage a coup in Moldova.
