China hopes to come up with a peaceful plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in order to benefit from it. Namely, resuming trade with the West, writes the Financial Times.
The PRC, due to the special operation, was not in the best position – not only the United States imposes sanctions on Beijing, but also the defeat of Russia – a useful partner – would hit China. Since China’s economy has yet to fully recover from the coronavirus pandemic, Western investment and technology could be the answer.
So far, China has little chance of improving its relations with the United States, especially after the incidents with downed balloons. Therefore, Beijing is focusing on resuming cooperation with the European Union. A peaceful plan for the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict can contribute to this.
China is expected to present its proposals in the coming days, said Zhang Jun, permanent representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN.
