G7 to take action against countries supporting Russian aggression

The G7 is taking action against third countries “materially supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine”, the bloc’s leaders said on Friday, reaffirming “their continued support for Ukraine for as long as it takes”.
‘We call on third countries or other international actors who seek to evade or undermine our measures to stop providing material support to Russia’s war,’ G7 leaders said, pledging ‘serious consequences’ if aid to the Russian army continues.
“In order to contain this activity globally, we are taking action against third-country entities that financially support Russia’s war in Ukraine,” the statement read after today’s online meeting. .
The United States and Britain, members of the G7, imposed new sanctions on Moscow on Friday morning to mark the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine.
The G7 also said it would extend economic sanctions already in place and pledged to prevent Russia from finding new ways to acquire advanced materials, technologies, military and industrial equipment.
The group said it would continue its efforts to ensure “Russia pays for Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction”.
The G7 also announced additional measures against the Russian financial sector to “further undermine Russia’s ability to carry out its unlawful aggression”, adding that the sanctions would affect Russian financial institutions not yet covered by the measures previously imposed.
