Icelandair opened baggage check-in at Keflavík airport the day before the flight. The service is available between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. the day before the booked flight. When passengers arrive at the airport the next day, they can go straight to security, simplifying their journey through the airport. Passengers must check in their baggage in person and have their passport with them, as stated in the company’s announcement.
In addition, Icelandair has entered into a partnership with the Security Center, which offers the service of collecting baggage from passengers’ homes and taking care of their check-in. The service is available to capital passengers who have checked in electronically. Passengers book security center services through the bagdrop.is website and there is also a price list.
“We are always looking for ways to increase our service offering and we want to do our best to reduce the impact of construction work at Keflavík Airport on passengers. That is why it is very exciting to present these two ways to passengers in order to make travel easier and shorten the time spent checking in at the airport. We look forward to seeing how passengers react to the service,” says Sylvía Kristín Ólafsdóttir, Director of Marketing and Services.
Isavia is currently carrying out major construction work on the baggage conveyors in the departure hall at Keflavík Airport. Construction will last until April and is part of improvements to the baggage sorting and check-in system. Due to construction, passengers can expect a longer processing time when checking baggage, and therefore the baggage check service the day before the flight could be particularly suitable for passengers in a hurry or those who travel with a lot of luggage.
