A natural dietary supplement known as nicotinamide riboside may protect against dementia. This conclusion was drawn by scientists whose study was published in MedicalXpress.Experts say the dietary supplement reaches the brain and alters the metabolism of biological pathways involved in neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have found that after consumption, nicotinamide riboside is converted into nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. This latter substance, in turn, helps to repair damaged cells and DNA.Scientists intend to continue research. They are investigating whether more widespread use of the supplement will improve cognitive performance.
