Journalist Ivan Safronov was transferred to IK-7 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Journalist Ivan Safronov, sentenced to 22 years in prison for treason, was transferred to IK-7 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. This is reported by Safronov’s support telegram channel, citing a letter from the journalist.
“Hi everyone! This is Safronov. And I am writing to you from correctional colony No. 7, located in the village of. Areiskoye in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where I recently arrived to serve the “punishment”, ”says the letter.
Safronov’s lawyer Dmitry Kachev in conversation with RIA Novosti confirmed this information. “He was transferred to IK-7 from the Krasnoyarsk Territory, for the time being this will be the place of serving the sentence,” the lawyer said.
IK-7 is a strict-regime penal colony for first-time male convicts, Remarks Interfax.
According to Safronov, the trip from Lefortovo remand center in Moscow to Krasnoyarsk took about three weeks, which is “considered fast.” The reporter said he was in quarantine awaiting assignment to a permanent secondment.

Former Kommersant and Vedomosti journalist Ivan Safronov was arrested in July 2020. At the time of his arrest, he was an adviser to the head of Roscosmos.
According to the FSB, in 2015 Safronov allegedly handed information about the Russian military in Syria to political scientist Demuri Voronin, and Voronin, who has Russian and German nationality, passed the information to German intelligence services.
In 2017, according to the investigation, Safronov passed secret information to the Czech special services through his friend in the Czech Republic, Martin Larish. The journalist pleaded not guilty and linked the criminal case to his professional activities, stressing that he only used open sources of information.
On September 5, 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced Safronov to 22 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 500,000 rubles. In February 2023, Safronov was removed from of adviser to the head of Roscosmos as part of the entry into force of the sentence.
