Pentagon: Initially, Kiev asked the United States for 128 F-16 fighters

February 28, 2023, 8:23 p.m. – Public Information Service – TEH – Ukraine has requested up to 138 fourth-generation fighters from the United States. The Pentagon has shared relevant information.
However, according to the US Department of Defense, Washington estimates that Kiev needs 50 to 80 F-16s in the future.
At the same time, the Pentagon announced that production of new F-16 fighter jets for shipment to Ukraine would take the United States three to six years.

Recall that on February 24, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Air Force Command Advisor Yuriy Ignat said the Ukrainian Air Force had not received a single new aircraft since 1991. He drew attention about the fact that there is the youngest aircraft SU-27 from 1991, which is “the same age as the independence of Ukraine.”
