Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Interior Ministry has proposed limiting the short-term stay of foreigners in Russia to 90 days a year

In Russia, it is planned to establish a single limit for the short-term stay of foreigners – 90 days a year, transmits RIA Novosti in reference to the Interior Ministry’s response to his request.
“The draft federal law “On the conditions of entry (exit) and stay (residence) in the Russian Federation of foreign citizens and stateless persons” is supposed to establish a single period of short-term stay of foreign citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation – 90 days in a calendar year, ”explained the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This bill was submitted to the Russian government in September 2022 and is being finalized on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers. It provides for the introduction of three migration regimes for foreigners in Russia:

short-term stay, long-term stay (more than 90 days per year without obtaining the right of permanent residence), permanent residence.

The length of long-term stay for foreigners, including students and migrant workers, should be determined “based on the grounds for obtaining such a right”, the Interior Ministry explained.
Now foreign citizens arriving in Russia without a visa have the right to stay in the country according to the 90/180 regime – no more than 90 days in six months and no more than 90 consecutive days.
The fact that Russia is preparing a new draft law regulating the conditions of entry, exit and stay of foreign citizens was announced in August 2022 during a meeting of the Security Council Committee on Improving the state migration policy, Secretary of the Council Dmitry Medvedev.
“Entry control, the rules concerning the stay of migrants on the territory of our country are an integral part of the security regime on the territory of our State. We are working in completely different conditions from a few years ago, and that has to be taken into account,” he explained.
