The operator’s engineers carried out work on the network, thanks to which LTE coverage appeared in three small settlements of the Smolensk region. Company analysts note that as a result of the work carried out, the speed of mobile Internet increased by an average of 20%.
The upgrade of the network to the LTE 1800 band took place in the villages of Losmino, Kasnya and Bogdanovo. Base stations in the 1800 MHz frequency range have a wide coverage area and a more stable signal for calls, as well as Internet use in the premises.
The development of “high” frequency infrastructures has made it possible to offer subscribers the possibility of downloading the maximum amount of information at speeds of up to 60 Mbps. Now local residents can use all digital services with more comfort, including those that require stable data transfer rate and fast network response time. For example, listen to music online, watch streaming videos in the highest resolution, broadcast live on social networks.

The network upgrade also expanded the ability to make calls over the Internet using VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology. The service not only provides crystal clear sound and an instant connection – the subscriber can simultaneously communicate on the phone and use the Internet without losing signal quality.
— We continue to close the white dots on the mobile network map of the region. By expanding the coverage area of 4G Internet, we create the most comfortable digital environment for subscribers, regardless of the remoteness of their residence – in the capital of the region or in a small town in the region, – comments Dmitry Senigov, Director of MegaFon in Smolensk.

MegaFon is the All-Russian operator of digital opportunities, the No. 1 operator in Russia in terms of network coverage and mobile Internet speed, which is confirmed by an independent study by the international company Ookla. The company combines the fields of IT and telecommunications, provides mobile and fixed communication services, mobile and broadband Internet access, digital television and OTT video content, innovative digital products and services. The company’s services in Russia are used by 74.9 million customers.
