The founder of the private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, wrote an appeal to the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin with a request to be allowed to criticize the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and detachments volunteers, including PMCs.
The businessman’s appeal followed the adoption of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the Code of Administrative Offenses on penalties for discrediting participants in a special military operation. According to Prigozhin, in order to provide the appropriate amount of constructive criticism, it is necessary to remove responsibility for statements made to senior command staff of the Ministry of Defense and volunteer detachments, including the private military company Wagner.
“Otherwise, any public and constructive criticism of their actions may lead to prosecution,” Prigozhin summed up in the telegram channel of his own press center.
As previously reported by Glavny Regionalny, for citizens who discredited participants of a special military operation in Ukraine, punishment is provided in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years. We are talking about the dissemination of discrediting information both about the Ministry of Defense and about the volunteer detachments.
