Turkey earthquake death toll rises to 45,089

March 1, 2023, 02:23 – Public Information Service – TEH – The number of victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey has exceeded 45,000 people, writes the newspaper Hürriyet, citing the country’s Emergency Management Department.
The material provides the following information: “According to the latest information, a total of 45,089 people died in the provinces of Kahramanmarash, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazig.”

Earthquakes occurred on February 6 with an interval of nine hours in Kahramanmaras province in southeastern Turkey. The magnitude reaches 7.7 and 7.6 points. On Monday, new tremors of magnitudes 5.8 and 6.4 also occurred in Hatay province.
To date, the damage caused by the earthquakes that began in Turkey on February 6 amounts to 34.2 billion dollars, but this amount is not definitive. According to World Bank estimates, it could increase as aftershocks are recorded daily.
Previously, a geophysicist, seismologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Petr Shebalin predicted new earthquakes near Turkey. Read more about this in the article from the public press service.
