Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Qatar Charity and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have entered into a concord of collaboration to further their shared objectives. This accord will enable both parties to join forces in order to promote their mutual aims and ambitions.

Qatar Charity and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a letter of intent regarding cooperation in charitable work, in addition to three agreements to provide aid to meet the most urgent needs of more than 50,000 forcibly displaced families in Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Yemen. Under the letter of intent, Qatar Charity and the UNHCR will cooperate in the field of charitable work. In addition, the UNHCR will provide shelter and cooking fuel for 162,235 Rohingya refugees in the Cox’s Bazar camps in Bangladesh, and will provide cash assistance and relief materials to 116,669 displaced people. Afghanistan, in addition to providing cash assistance to 22,728 internally displaced persons in Yemen. The letter of intent was signed at the UNHCR headquarters in Geneva, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Charity, and His Excellency Mr. Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in a ceremony attended by Her Excellency Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Al-Muftah. Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva, and Mr. Youssef bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity. His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani stressed the importance of this strategic cooperation in facing global humanitarian challenges, and said: "Qatar Charity and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) aim to benefit from the ability of charitable work to achieve social justice for all, including the forcibly displaced, through projects aimed at supporting their most urgent needs in Bangladesh and Yemen and creating appropriate conditions for their safe return in Afghanistan."
For his part, Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, praised the support provided by Qatar Charity for the UNHCR’s humanitarian response, and expressed his welcome to the partnership with Qatar Charity as an example of responsibility-sharing and innovative charitable work, and said. "War, persecution, human rights violations and climate change have forced millions of people from their homes in search of safety and support". added "They need and deserve help from the entire international community, so I am grateful for this timely assistance that will help the most needy and vulnerable, and for Qatar Charity’s solidarity and continuous support for people who have been forced to flee their homes.". It is worth noting that the strategic partnership between Qatar Charity and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) extends over a decade, as Qatar Charity and UNHCR together supported more than 1.6 million forcibly displaced people around the world with cash assistance projects, livelihoods, shelter and life-saving basic relief items.
