US approves sale of F-16 munitions to Taiwan

The US State Department has approved the sale of ammunition and other related equipment for F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan as part of a $619 million deal.
According to the Pentagon, the main contractors are Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin.
The Security Cooperation Agency provided the necessary certifications when notifying Congress of the sale on Wednesday.
The approval of the sale, authorized by the Taiwan Relations Act, comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing.
The latter has been making almost daily incursions into the aquatic zone and the airspace of the island for several weeks.
