UK Environment Minister Theresa Coffey has advised citizens to ‘treat turnips’ amid a severe vegetable shortage.According to the politician, do not miss the tomatoes that have disappeared from the shelves, but crack for the forage turnips. After such a declaration, an “avalanche of criticism” fell on the minister on social networks, writes The Guardian.”A lot of people today might be eating turnips instead of necessarily thinking about lettuce, tomatoes and the like,” Coffey said in a speech to parliament.Outraged Twitter users began to accompany their posts with doctored photos of campaign buses, which read: “Forget tomatoes – eat turnips” and “You voted for this yourself”. After waiting for an avalanche of jokes and anger, the government defended Coffey, explaining that the minister favored the popularization of British vegetables.
