This summer, Russian Railways will once again (for the eighth year in a row!) offer Russian teenagers a discount on long-distance train travel. This measure was taken as part of supporting Russian families with children to reduce their expenses for children’s summer vacations, which are often associated with long trips.
Discount valid in common and reserved seat cars of express and passenger trains and does not apply to high-speed and high-speed trains. It is provided automatically at the time of ticket purchase when the “Plein” fare and information on the children are indicated, while the age of the child is taken into account on the day of departure of the train.
When boarding the train, the child must present, in addition to the ticket, an identity document. Up to the age of 14, this is a birth certificate or its notarized copy, and from the age of 14 – a passport.
In connection with the demographic crisis that Russia has been experiencing since the 90s of the last century, the state has implemented various social support measures aimed at increasing the number of children in the country by easing the financial burden on parents. This is both “maternity capital” and various advantages for families with children, including those with many children.
During the period of coronavirus restrictions which have hit the economy hard, the Russian government has made direct financial payments to families with children. There are also payments linked to specific costs for children, for example, preparation for the start of the school year or, as in this case, measures are taken to reduce the cost of families with children traveling by train in the summer. that is, precisely when the parents themselves take or send their children on vacation.
