The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs ceremoniously inaugurated the “United Nations House” in a grand ceremony.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani affirmed that Doha will remain a title and forum for multilateral action, and a reliable platform for dialogue and cooperation between parties that believe in the importance of joint action to face global challenges.

This came in a speech delivered by His Excellency this evening on the occasion of the inauguration "United Nations House" Lusail region on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, in the presence of a large number of Their Excellencies ministers and United Nations officials.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani noted that the positive momentum witnessed by the inauguration of the United Nations House and its distinguished high-level presence is the result of serious and tireless work, and the fruit of a path that began many years ago within the framework of the strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, which It included the opening of many of its offices and bodies in Doha, and that work is under way to host more offices of other United Nations entities.

His Excellency expressed the State of Qatar’s pride in what has been achieved in the context of the partnership with the United Nations system, as Qatar raised the level of its donations to United Nations agencies, and signed many agreements with various United Nations agencies, which resulted in many achievements and tangible results.

HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed to the State of Qatar’s keenness to always be a platform for multilateral action, which is evident today in its hosting of a group of high-level personalities to participate in the official opening of the United Nations House, expressing his appreciation for the participation of HE Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. In this inauguration, he praised at the same time his leadership role in the United Nations, and his tireless efforts to continue to fulfill the hopes pinned on this organization, which has made remarkable progress in maintaining peace and security and promoting sustainable development.

His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar appreciates the contributions and experience of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, especially at this exceptional stage and what recent years have shown that no country is capable of addressing the multifaceted challenges on its own, praising at the same time the active role of HE Mr. Chaba Koroshi as President of the current session of the General Assembly. to the United Nations.

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani continued by saying "Today we are honored to open "United Nations House"which will be based in Doha, and which will be a platform for continuing cooperation, dialogue and exchange of experiences, and we hope that the United Nations House in Doha will strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the State of Qatar and the international organization, and that the result of its presence will be at the level of expectations pinned on it, especially in our region that is witnessing various challenges".

He added that the State of Qatar announced, during the 18th Doha Forum in 2018, its support of $500 million to fund various United Nations bodies and agencies. Today, through the opening of the United Nations House, the State of Qatar renews its commitment to continue supporting the activities of United Nations entities and cooperating closely with them. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that the opening of the United Nations House coincides with the holding of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, the second part of which will open tomorrow and will last for five days, expressing his pride in the opportunity to host such a historic event that is held once in a while. Ten years, and his hope that this conference will contribute to bringing about the desired change in the lives of millions of people of the least developed countries, and that it will contribute to alleviating the burdens of the crises and challenges facing these countries.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani expressed his confidence that this inauguration constitutes another positive step, and another successful example of the depth of the strategic partnership and vital cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United Nations system, expressing his aspiration that this inauguration represents a renewed start for this partnership and a motive to enhance the outputs of the work Various UN agencies and institutions to achieve our common aspirations.

For his part, His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, stressed that "United Nations House" It is not just an ordinary place, but it is an entity in which developmental, humanitarian and diplomatic work gathers under one roof, and a symbol of the United Nations strategic partnership with Qatar, indicating that today’s world is full of enormous challenges such as conflicts, climate change, mass displacement, poverty, hunger and increasing inequality, which are issues that require cooperation on a large scale. and requires solidarity from all countries in order to find solutions to it.

Guterres praised the spirit of cooperation and solidarity that distinguished the partnership between Qatar and the United Nations from the beginning, and Qatar’s generosity in helping the poorest countries, its rapid and consistent support for achieving the goals of sustainable development, and its valuable contributions to the work of the United Nations in combating terrorism and violent extremism and searching for solutions to current and future issues.

His Excellency stressed that the strategic partnership between the United Nations and the State of Qatar grows every year, and that Qatar’s hosting of the Fifth Conference on the Least Developed Countries reflects Qatar’s commitment to contributing to drawing up a map of the world and providing solutions for millions of people to the challenges of poverty and sustainability, as well as supporting the least developed countries. Antonio Guterres thanked the government and people of the State of Qatar for their commitment to building cooperation and partnership and supporting the efforts of the United Nations, expressing his hope that the "United Nations House" Its fruits are for happiness, well-being and brotherhood between Qatar, the United Nations and the international community.

For his part, His Excellency Mr. Chapa Koroshi, President of the United Nations General Assembly, considered that "United Nations House" A new gem in architecture added to the collection of beautiful buildings in the State of Qatar, which is a symbol of joint efforts to work for a sustainable and more peaceful world, and it is a testament to the commitment of the State of Qatar towards international cooperation and towards the principles that the international community cherishes.

He added that the State of Qatar has become an important platform for dialogue and a regional and international center for many international bodies and agencies, and there is no doubt that this new house will develop into a center for international activities in the region and in order to promote dialogue between different countries and joint action between peoples and help in advocating for peaceful negotiation and advocating common understanding. And a pillar of pluralism in the Gulf region.

His Excellency praised the State of Qatar for its generous support and partnership to establish this house so that work continues with a common vision for a better future, expressing his hope that the United Nations house will be a symbol of commitment and teamwork and make this vision a reality.
