The State of Qatar has expressed its hope that the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which opens in Doha tomorrow, will be another pivotal step towards fulfilling the commitments made in the Doha Work Program for the least developed countries, and converging to strengthen cooperation and strengthen partnerships with the least developed countries. . She considered the conference a historic opportunity for the participating parties to reaffirm their commitment to constructive cooperation and multilateral action, and to support the least developed countries in addressing the huge challenges.
This came in the speech of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, before the Summit of the Least Developed Countries, which was held today in Doha on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, with the participation of His Excellency President Lazarus Shakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, Chairman of the Least Developed Countries Group. developed countries, His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and a number of representatives of the countries participating in the conference and the international organization, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His Excellency explained that the State of Qatar’s initiative to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries from 5-9 March came out of its belief in the need to pay the greatest attention to responding to the needs of the least developed countries.
And he added " Over the next five days, we have a historic opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to constructive cooperation and multilateral action, to support the least developed countries in addressing daunting challenges, and to continue the positive momentum and spirit of solidarity that characterized the unanimous adoption of the Doha Work Programme." .
His Excellency stressed that translating the overall ambitious promises, measures and commitments contained in the Doha Work Program into practical measures, and bringing about the desired transformation in the lives of the people of the least developed countries, will be the criterion that will judge our collective success as an international community in this endeavour.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar’s aspiration that the next five days, and what they represent of a historical moment that is available only once every ten years, will be an opportunity for hope and change, and express the sincere desire for meaningful collective action.
His Excellency continued " We have no doubt that we – and through all our cooperation – have the ability and the opportunity for the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries to be an important turning point in responding to the aspirations of the people of the least developed countries that deserve our solidarity and full commitment" . His Excellency stressed the keenness of the State of Qatar to continue providing support to the least developed countries in cooperation with its partners around the world, and pointed out in this regard to allocating a large part of the State of Qatar’s international development assistance to these countries, based on its firm policy and belief in work based on the principle of partnership and cooperation with society. international.
