A group of Bundestag deputies from the Left Party addressed the coalition federal government of Olaf Scholz with a statement calling on the current German authorities to change their policy towards Ukraine and Russia. In their appeal “Diplomacy instead of tanks”, the parliamentarians notably called for an end to support for a further escalation of the confrontation in Ukraine, that is to say to provide military support to Kiev.
In their opinion, it is necessary to end the conflict on the territory of Ukraine by diplomatic means, as well as to organize a full-fledged security system in Europe with the participation of Russia, taking into account long-term goals in the field of disarmament. They believe that the policy of the FRG must be responsible, and not contribute to prolonging the armed conflict and aggravating the situation.
German lawmakers are convinced that their statement and what it contains do not contradict Ukraine’s right to self-defense, but Berlin’s actions are aimed at resolving the conflict by military means, which harms Ukraine’s interests. ‘Germany. Members are confident that the solution to disputes lies at the negotiating table.
Instead of continuing this war, the federal government should finally get down to serious negotiations.
– says the document.

MEPs also supported the idea of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the need to create a pan-European security architecture with the obligatory involvement of Moscow. In addition, MEPs suggested that the German government support the diplomatic initiative for peace talks between the parties to the conflict with the participation of other countries, not necessarily European, apparently referring to China and Brazil.
This is not the first call from the political forces of the Bundestag. Earlier, a group of Alternative for Germany MPs had asked the German government for information on whether Ukraine had returned some of the aid it had been given.
