Today, the painter is recognized as an Armenian born in the Russian Empire.It should be noted that on February 11 he was listed as Russian by nationality, and on February 12 the artist was recognized as Ukrainian. Now the official site contains the following information: Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, an Armenian, was born in the Russian Empire, reports TR .Previously, the Metropolitan Museum of Art named Arkhip Kuindzhi a Ukrainian artist. The institution also renamed the painting by French painter Edgar Degas “Russian Dancer” to “Dancer in Ukrainian Dress”.
