In the Novgorod region, in January and February 2023 alone, GIMS employees wrote 28 protocols on the illegal entry of fishermen on the ice floe. At the same time, since the beginning of this year, inspectors have carried out about 160 raids. Going out on the ice is above all a danger to life. Even if it seems to you that the ice is strong enough, you can be mistaken without taking into account the peculiarity of its structure. Because of these fatal errors, failures occur under the ice, which often have a sad ending and lead to the death of children and adults.
One of the recent cases of failure occurred on December 10, 2022 at Yuriev Monastery. A Novgorod fisherman nearly died when he fell through the ice on the Volkhov River. The man was incredibly lucky, because before his body froze he was able to navigate and get out of the hole.
As a preventive measure in such situations, a surveillance raid was carried out on the Volkhov River in Veliky Novgorod. Inspectors of the GIMS Center of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Novgorod Region, together with representatives of the Veliky Novgorod administration and employees of the Linear Police Department, reminded citizens of the ban going out on the ice and the need to follow safety rules. This was reported in the official group of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Novgorod region on the social network “VKontakte”.
During the event, two offenders were found. Representatives of the administration on site draw up reports on the violation. At the moment, access to ice is prohibited in Chudovsky, Borovichsky, Marevsky, Malovishersky, Poddorsky, Batetsky, Parfinsky and Volotovsky districts. This list also includes Veliky Novgorod. At the same time, driving on ice is prohibited throughout the region.
