Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

19 new works by Boris Kustodiev are on display at the Kostroma Romanov Museum

The Management of the Kostroma Romanov Museum announces the opening within its walls of a new exhibition of works by the eminent Russian painter Boris Kustodiev. The new exhibition is dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the artist’s birth and includes 19 of his previously unseen works. These are 12 paintings and 7 graphic works that were created by Boris Kustodiev when he lived in the province of Kostroma. In Kostroma, by the way, he met his future wife, Yulia Evstafyevna Proshinskaya – the exhibition presents her portrait with her son Cyril in her arms; this canvas was temporarily provided by the painter’s great-niece.

Kustodiev’s works were painted at the beginning of the 20th century, that is, when the unique style of Boris Kustodiev developed – these canvases depict everyday scenes from the life of the inhabitants of Kostroma and views of the discreet beauty of the province of Kostroma.

The exhibition will continue until the end of March.
