The Russian army conducted exercises on the islands, according to the TELMENEWS.RU news agency
The Russian military conducted an exercise in the Kuril Islands with an S-300V4 long-range anti-aircraft missile system. The task of the exercises was to cover the military installations from possible attacks by the aggressor, according to the Eastern Military District. The exercises took place on one of the islands of the Kuril ridge – the army “took the task of covering the military installations against air attacks of a fake enemy”, the district press service said.
Earlier, in the Sea of Japan, Russian submariners successfully launched a Kalibr missile at a target at a training ground in the Khabarovsk Territory. The target was reached, the exercises were considered successful. Such actions by the Pacific Fleet are likely a response to Japanese provocations in the region.
Fueling instability in the region, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and US Marine Corps announced they were conducting drills to protect the outer islands. They took place at the Yausubetsu training ground, located on the northern island of Hokkaido. According to Japanese media, the maneuvers involved HIMARS facilities, which states provide extensively to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
By the way, Volodymyr Zelensyy has previously said that he supports Japan’s claims to the Kuril Ridge. Apparently, Tokyo has every right to lay claim to the disputed islands, calling them “northern territories”.
