The construction of the airport will take away the tourist flow and the income of the Krasnodar authorities. The new air port will serve up to 3 million people per year.

Abkhazia President Aslan Bzhaniya announced that an airport would be built in Sukhum, to which Russians could fly directly, bypassing Sochi. This will lead to losses for the governor of Kuban, Veniamin Kondratiev.

As the publication Accents explains, the coronavirus pandemic has drawn the attention of Russians to the resorts of Abkhazia. The number of tourists on the Black Sea coast exceeded one million people per year, which exceeded the tourist flow to Egypt. With the opening of the Abkhaz air port, up to 3 million people will be able to fly to Sukhumi, which will break the records of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Russian Ministry of Economy said.
