Qatar: Al-Rayyan Municipality closes two food establishments for handling unfit food

Al Rayyan Municipality issued two administrative decisions to close "Our people’s food basket" for 14 days, and"Al-Bitar Supermarket" For a period of 3 days, in violation of Law No. 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control.

In the details, the Ministry of Municipality stated – through its official account on Twitter – that the basket of our people for foodstuffs in Area (53) was completely closed for a period of 14 days, due to its handling of food that is not suitable for consumption.

Also, the Al-Bitar supermarket in area (55) was completely closed for 3 days, due to the trading of expired food.

The Ministry of Municipality notes that determining the duration of the closure is due to the discretion of the competent municipal director according to the type and severity of the violation as determined by the law, pointing out that the duration of the closure does not exceed 60 days at a time, and the closures multiply by repeating the violations, indicating that it is not permissible to open the closed shop or start the activity Or maintenance work throughout the closure period, and violating that entails criminal liability.
