Qatar: Qatar renews its condemnation of the incidents of burning the Holy Quran in some Western countries

The State of Qatar has renewed its deep dissatisfaction and its total condemnation of the recent incidents of burning the Noble Qur’an in some Western countries, and all hate speech and acts of intolerance that would fuel feelings of hostility and violence against others, stressing what the High Commissioner for Human Rights said of the seriousness of these deliberate provocations. She called on the governments of the concerned countries to take effective measures to prevent their recurrence, and to hold those responsible accountable, especially since these actions deliberately provoke Muslims’ feelings, disrespect their sanctities, and incite violence against them.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to Geneva, during her participation in the general debate on the oral update of the High Commissioner for Human Rights within the framework of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Her Excellency referred to the work of the Fifth United Nations Conference for the Least Developed Countries, which is continuing successfully in Doha, expressing her hope that the period following the conference will witness directing efforts towards implementing the Doha Action Program for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2022-2031 in a way that responds to the aspirations of these countries and meets their needs and priorities. towards achieving development. Her Excellency noted the State of Qatar’s announcement, based on its commitment to support development in these countries, to make a financial contribution of $60 million to support the implementation of the activities of the Doha Work Program and to build the resilience of these countries. She referred to the opening of the United Nations House in Doha on the sidelines of the conference, which includes representative offices of a number of international organizations and United Nations agencies, which will enhance the ability of the State of Qatar to implement its regional and international activities and programmes. Her Excellency the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva pointed out that the brotherly Syrian people went through a difficult stage as a result of the earthquake, which caused massive loss of life and property, in addition to the continued gross violations of human rights, the deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the Syrian regime’s insistence on a military solution. It called on the international community to continue to assist and protect the Syrians, and to ensure accountability for those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against them. Her Excellency expressed the State of Qatar’s strong condemnation of the increase in crimes and grave violations committed by the Israeli forces and extremist Israeli settlers against the brotherly Palestinian people, stressing the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by taking the necessary measures to expand and activate protection and accountability mechanisms for Israeli officials, and to provide protection for the Palestinians and ensure their enjoyment of all their rights.
