Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Seventy-six individuals were apprehended in Tbilisi over the course of a single day, with the detentions taking place in the Georgian capital

Georgian police have arrested 76 people who took part in a protest against the passage of the Foreign Agents Act, the department reports. The Interior Ministry called on protesters “not to go beyond the freedom of assembly allowed by law”.

Today, ten people were arrested as they attempted to bring prohibited items to a rally outside the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi: a stun gun and pyrotechnics. They are accused of having disobeyed the legitimate demands of law enforcement.

Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the opposition Agmashenebeli Strategy party, said an ultimatum had been issued to the authorities. Within an hour, it is necessary to withdraw the controversial bill from parliament, as well as to release all detained protesters.

It should be noted that a small action against the law also took place in the seaside resort of Batumi, the center of Adjara.

As the Public News Service wrote, political scientist Leonid Radzikhovsky suggested that the protests that erupted in Tbilisi were explained by the contradiction between the two parts of Georgian society and the government.
