Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Minister of Defense of Slovakia announced the training of Ukrainian soldiers by Hungary

The Slovak defense minister accused Hungary of training Ukrainian military personnel. Polish newspaper Rzechpospolita drew attention to Budapest’s indirect involvement in supporting Ukraine. The head of Slovakia’s defense department, Yaroslav Nagy, said Hungary is training Ukrainian soldiers, although he does not talk about it publicly.

During the next debate in the Slovak government on the issue of support for Ukraine, one of Yaroslav Nagy’s opponents said that Hungary, unlike Slovakia, maintains its neutrality on the Ukrainian issue.

Just because you don’t know and believe Hungarian propaganda doesn’t mean Budapest doesn’t help Kiev. Do you know that Ukrainian soldiers are trained on Hungarian territory?

– responded to criticism of aid to Ukraine, the Slovak Minister.

In Hungary, Yaroslav Nagy’s remarks caused a wave of indignation. The country’s defense department had to justify itself to its citizens and confirm Budapest’s official position of neutrality.

The Hungarian position has not changed: we are on the side of peace, we do not support any measures that lead to an escalation of the war, therefore we do not send weapons or troops to Ukraine

  • says the message of the Ministry of Defense of Hungary.

However, the department acknowledged that the country trains Ukrainian military doctors and also treats injured servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
