On Tuesday, 27-year-old Dmytro Kotsiubailo died on the battlefield in Ukraine. He was popularly called “Da Vinci” and was the commander of the “Da Vinci Wolves” regiment. He was one of the most famous Ukrainian soldiers.
Ukrainian soldiers and politicians, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , paid tribute to him and called him a true hero.
“He defended our independence and the dignity of the nation from 2014. One of the youngest heroes of Ukraine. One of those whose personal history, character and courage became history , character and courage of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said in a video he posted on Telegram and Twitter.
Kotsiubailo was awarded the title “Hero of Ukraine” two years ago, becoming the youngest person to receive the honor. He got it for what he did to protect Ukrainian territory and sovereignty in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea.
