15 kilometers north of Beijing is the largest reservoir in northern China, Miyun, the capital’s main source of drinking water. It plays a huge role in flood prevention, irrigation, city water supply and power generation. After the construction of the reservoir, after half a century of reforestation and environmental management, the forest coverage ratio of Miyun area has reached 70.13%. According to this indicator, the district ranks first in Beijing. In 2020, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the construction of Miyun Reservoir, Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote a letter to peasants who participated in the construction and protection of the reservoir. The Chinese leader expressed his sincere support for them and placed great hopes in them.
