Qatar: The conclusion of the activities of the twenty-fourth Gulf Engineering Forum in Doha

This evening, the activities of the twenty-fourth Gulf Engineering Forum were concluded under the title "Environmental Engineering and Sustainability"Organized by the Ministry of Municipality in cooperation with the Gulf Engineering Union and the Qatar Society of Engineers during the period from the seventh to the ninth of March, during which five dialogue sessions were held that discussed (24) working papers, presented by a group of engineers from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the field of environmental engineering and sustainability. The third and closing day of the forum witnessed a discussion session on (efficient management of facilities and cities), in which Abu Bakr Al-Hadrami, Chief of Operations (Qatar Facilities), Mr. Salim Al-Yafei (from Qatar Foundation) and Faiq Bin Juma (from Bahrain) participated Today, a lecture on / Strategies and policies for sustainable urban development, a future vision .. The planning system and its role in achieving the urban vision /. Today, the forum discussed a set of working papers, namely: "The Value of Less and Smaller: Transforming Metropolitan Doha into Connected and Resilient Urban Spheres" Submitted by Ali Abdel Raouf, Department of Urban Planning, Ministry of Municipality, "Delivering an education for sustainable engineering" Presented by Najat Ishaqi (from Bahrain), "Sustainable cities in the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States" Presented by Susan Alajawi (from Bahrain), "Research the relationship between the phenomenon of heat islands and urban masses in hot areas" Presented by Mohamed Najjar (from Qatar University), W"Resilience in Urban Planning from a Climate Change Perspective: A Case Study of Qatar"Submitted by Hossam Samman (from the Ministry of Municipality), "Developing environmental management performance in Public Works Authority projects" Submitted by Maitha Ali Al Nuaimi (Public Works Authority), "The impact of consumed food waste on humans and biodiversity in green spaces and residential areas" Presented by Hamid Ibrahim Al-Jalil (from Saudi Arabia), W"Industry sustainability in the Gulf urban environment, and activating the role of engineering associations and unions in the development of general strategies for them"Presented by Hisham bin Mohammed Saeed Al Kamal (from Saudi Arabia). During the working paper entitled "The role of municipalities in achieving sustainable development"Suha Mahmoud (Al-Wakra Municipality) confirmed that the State of Qatar is witnessing a comprehensive and accelerated urban renaissance, which requires enhancing the quality of services provided by the service sector, including municipalities, because of its wide powers and roles within its urban and urban scope, pointing out that what the world witnessed Recently, wars, conflicts and natural disasters have caused tremendous pressure on natural resources and infrastructure, which requires institutions to work systematically with a holistic system that takes into account economic and social development in parallel with environmental development to ensure an improvement in the quality of life in cities. She explained that all these reasons formed a roadmap for officials in Al-Wakra Municipality, and contributed to changing the course of work away from traditional methods, and moving it towards sustainable development, while maintaining the performance of the required service role, in what is due to the added value of municipal sector services to all members of society and their surroundings. Environmental, noting that Al-Wakra Municipality has established the Sustainable Development Projects Unit, through which a number of field and research initiatives and practices in the field of sustainable development will be implemented, in cooperation with the educational sector, the health sector, and the private sector, and a strong push has been made towards spreading awareness in this field among Classes of students as the future generation, and urged them to contribute in the field, volunteer and research. And she highlighted that the fruit of those efforts was the implementation of a number of researches in the form of sustainable projects, which were fully supported by private sector companies, including – but not limited to – the walkway for the elderly and people with special needs on Al-Wakra Public Beach, which was completely implemented with recycled materials. And conforming to the Qatari specifications (QCS), which had a great impact in enhancing the role of young people in solving community issues, and in finding environmentally friendly solutions.

For his part, Engineer Mohammed Hassan Al Nuaimi, Director General of Al Wakra Municipality, spoke about the role of municipalities in supporting projects based on the waste recycling industry, starting with their contribution to allocating the lands needed for these projects, supervising their commitment to technical and environmental standards, and then supporting their implementation within initiatives to spread the principles of disposal. It is safe from waste among community members, especially school students, pointing out that Al-Wakra Municipality launched the e-waste disposal initiative, which resulted in the recycling of nearly 800 tons of e-waste, which would have caused severe damage to the environment if it had been disposed of by road. traditional. In the same context, a closing ceremony was held for the forum in the presence of Engineer Fahd Muhammad Al-Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Gulf Engineering Forum, Engineer Muhammad Ali Al-Khuzaie, Secretary-General of the Gulf Engineering Federation, Engineer Khaled Ahmed Al-Nasr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Society of Engineers, and a number Among the officials of the urban planning sector, delegations of Member States and representatives of the entities participating in the accompanying exhibition, where a number of delegations of countries, governmental and semi-governmental entities, and participating companies were honored during the forum, by presenting certificates of honor and souvenirs. A special honor was given to: His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Public Authority in the State of Kuwait, Engineer Saad bin Saleh bin Shuail, Secretary General of the National Committee for the Saudi Building Code, and Engineer Muhammad Ghaith Al-Mutairi, who holds a patent in renewable energy from Saudi Arabia. . The official sponsors of the forum, the scientific committee supervising the selection of engineering working papers, and a number of participants were also honored, in addition to representatives of the entities participating in the exhibition accompanying the forum, representatives of engineering associations and bodies in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and a number of pavilions of specialized agencies, including Qatar University (College of Engineering), Expo 2023 Doha Pavilion, Qatari Women Engineers Committee, Qatar Scientific Club, Seashore Group, and Qatar Voluntary Center.
