Elva Hrönn Hjartardóttir does not give much credence to theories that she is linked to a political party or that she is running for president of VR as a representative of all feminists in the country. She operates on her own terms and is fully capable of making her own decisions.
She draws attention to this on Facebook, but the reason for her writing is a comment made by journalist Frosti Logason in Bítin á Bylgjuni this morning, where he talked about the news of the week. Frosti said that Elva Hränn comes from the workshop of activists Sóleyjar Tómasdóttir and Drífa Snædal and is a candidate for all feminists in the country.
Elva writes:
“Since I announced my candidacy, it has been linked to VG and the Independence Party, my VR colleagues and I have been awarded the title of ‘offspring of Drífa Snædal and Halla Gunnarsdóttur’. This morning, the “unique” Frosti Logason unveiled his conspiracy theory on Bylgja, where the news of the week was reviewed. He means that I come directly from the workshop of Sóleyjar Tómasdóttir and Drífa Snædal and that I direct “all the feminists across the country to take over VR. “I think I have to say now that this is my favorite theory to date.”
Elva states that there is no force behind her and that she is running on her own terms.
“I repeat: I am in this candidacy on my own terms because I made this decision myself. I am fully capable of making my own decisions and there is no force behind me, financial, political or other. But I certainly received a lot of encouragement from everywhere.
I’m running because me and a lot of people who know me think I have a mission as president of VR. Because all my life I have done my best to treat my fellow man well, to speak on behalf of those who for some reason cannot do it myself, and to use my privileged position in life to work in favor of a just society. This is why I am a candidate for the presidency of VR.”
The VR presidential election is over and will end on Wednesday next week. Elva Hrönn is running against incumbent President Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson.
