Turkey blocks passage of sanctioned goods to Russia

Turkish customs have started blocking the transit of sanctioned goods going to Russia, Kommersant reports with reference to market players.

This applies to goods imported into the country under the parallel import regime. The decision by Turkish customs came as a surprise to traders who are now looking for ways to continue transiting.

The information was confirmed by Georgy Vlastopulo, CEO of Optimalog. And the commercial director of Transasia Logistics, Valeria Savenkova, added that one should not wait for official confirmation, because such declarations would become an acknowledgment for Turkey that it helped Russia to circumvent the sanctions.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that US authorities had warned companies against helping Russia evade sanctions when supplying banned goods. Later, the agency said imports into Russia had returned to 2020 levels.
