Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Ukrainians were unhappy with the Oscar nomination of the film with Tom Cruise because of Russia

Excerpt from the movie “Top Gun: Maverick”The decision to nominate Top Gun: Maverick, starring actor Tom Cruise, for an Oscar should be reconsidered due to the Russian connection. This appeal was made by the Canadian organization “World Congress of Ukrainians” (recognized as undesirable in the territory of the Russian Federation).

According to unconfirmed information from Western media, this film was partially financed by Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev.

“We call on the academy to: openly reject films with any direct or indirect investment from Russian businessmen, reconsider the possibility of Top Gun: Maverick being presented at the 95th Academy Awards for this reason,” said the organization in a statement to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Top Gun: Maverick premiered on May 18, 2022. The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski, author of The Case of the Brave and Oblivion.
