Today, the cricket legends (Masters) tournament, in its second edition, organized by the Qatar Cricket Committee, kicked off for the first time at the Asian City Stadium in the Industrial Area in Doha, and will continue until March 20, with the participation of three international teams that include international players, famous and legends of the game. The opening confrontation, which witnessed the presence of about 10,000 spectators, brought together the teams / INDIA MAHARAJAS / and / ASIA LIONS /, the latter winning with a score of (166/156), after an exciting performance from both sides, as a result of which the competition continued for about three hours.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the second day’s competitions will witness a confrontation between the teams: /INDIA MAHARAJAS/ and /WORLD GIANTS/ at exactly half past five, within the first round competitions that will conclude the day after tomorrow / Sunday / with a confrontation between / ASIA LIONS / and / WORLD GIANTS/. Legendary cricketers from around the world, including Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Shahid Afridi, Sohaib Akhtar, Brett Lee, Shani Watson, Chris Gayle and Lindell Simmons, will participate in the tournament.
After the conclusion of the first round, three more matches will be held in the second round, followed by the ranking match, and then the final match, which will be held on March 20. Mr. Khaled Saleh Al-Rumaihi, Secretary General of the Qatar Cricket Committee, expressed his great happiness with the inaugural atmosphere hosted by the Asian City Stadium today, stressing that cricket is very popular at the public level among the Asian communities in Qatar.
Al-Rumaihi added, in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), "Doha is hosting the tournament for the first time at the Asian City Stadium.". Al-Rumaihi also indicated, at the end of his statements to QNA, that the excitement will reach its climax during the advanced stages of the tournament in light of the presence of a group of game stars in the world, pointing out that the goal of the tournament in Doha is to spread the culture of cricket in Qatar, and its horizontal expansion. Especially since the Qatari national team is about to play many continental competitions in the coming period.
For his part, Mr. Issa Ali Ghanem, Assistant Secretary of the Qatar Cricket Committee, said that the tournament is of great importance to the Asian communities residing in Qatar, as evidenced by the huge crowd of fans, and the attendance of nearly 10,000 spectators in the opening match.
He added, in a similar statement to /QNA/, "Cricket legends have great public popularity, and the aim of their presence in Qatar is to gain experience for the Qatari national team, especially as it will compete in the Asian Championships to be hosted by Nepal next April, preceded by a joint training camp with the Ugandan national team, which will arrive in Doha within the next two weeks.". The Assistant Secretary of the Qatar Cricket Committee invited fans and fans of the game to attend the tournament competitions and enjoy watching the matches of legends and stars at the Asian City Stadium in Doha.
