Opening of the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with the participation of the Shura Council

The Shura Council participated, this evening, in the opening of the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which Bahrain is hosting for five days, with a delegation headed by His Excellency Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Council.

It includes the meetings of the 146th session of the General Assembly, which is held under the slogan "Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies: combating intolerance", all the bodies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, including the Governing Council, permanent committees and sub-committees, as the work program includes several meetings of these bodies and committees, in addition to workshops and accompanying events, and coordination meetings between the Gulf, Arab, Islamic and Asian parliaments, and various parliamentary groups. Parliamentary delegations will exchange views and discussions on the general topic of the General Assembly’s work related to peaceful coexistence. The meetings will also include consultation and exchange of views on a number of pressing issues related to cyber attacks and crimes, reducing carbon emissions and climate change, trafficking in orphans, combating misinformation, hate content, and content discrimination in cyberspace, and tomorrow the General Assembly will adopt the emergency item that will be placed on the agenda. It is worth noting that the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is an international organization with a pivotal goal to promote and protect global democracy. The union consists of 178 member parliaments and 14 associate members.
