Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The International Chamber of Commerce – Qatar is discussing the formation of a local committee to facilitate trade and customs

A symposium organized by the International Chamber of Commerce – Qatar, in partnership with the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce, discussed the formation of a local committee to facilitate trade and customs, no later than March 30, by videoconference.

Ms. Florence Pinta Diao Gui, Head of Global Policies, Trade and Customs at the International Chamber of Commerce, spoke during the symposium, where she reviewed the work and priorities of the committee for the year 2023, in addition to the trends and challenges in the current trade scene.

More than 70 participants from representatives of private sector companies, insurance and bank service providers, lawyers and legal advisors, shipping agents and business owners participated in the event.

The International Chamber of Commerce Qatar stated that the symposium presented a number of lessons learned that will contribute to strengthening the strategic direction of the local committee to be established, which will focus on local challenges, promote trade perspectives, and thus improve customs operations and trade facilitation in Qatar, in addition to contributing to international policy making. On issues of interest, including, for example, the World Customs Organization.

During the symposium, the International Chamber of Commerce Qatar announced that it is about to form a local committee to facilitate trade and customs, during the current year, to include in its membership a chairperson, vice-chairmen and a number of members.

The International Chamber of Commerce – Qatar called on its members to nominate for membership in the committee’s management, which includes a chairperson and vice-chairmen, and set the deadline for accepting nominations, which is Thursday, March 30, provided that it continues to receive applications for candidates to join the committee membership after this date.

On this occasion, the International Chamber of Commerce – Qatar/ expressed its keenness to announce the joining of a new committee to its committees, noting that it is largely in line with the strategy of the International Chamber of Commerce for the year 2023.

She indicated that the Chamber’s activities during the current world will focus on four main topics: enabling trade, accelerating sustainability and climate action, forming an open and reliable digital economy, and promoting multilateral cooperation, pointing out that the representation of the private sector is a major priority in all activities of the Chamber, and that its committees include members from the private sector, which benefits the Qatari business community and enhances its role.

For her part, Mrs. Florence Pinta Diao Gui expressed her pleasure that the International Chamber of Commerce – Qatar has launched a local committee to facilitate trade and customs, pointing out that global work depends on the presence of members in all regions, which ensures global influence, regional importance and local influence as well.

She also emphasized that facilitating cross-border trade, especially in times of crisis, by using all available tools, contributes to building more resilient economies and benefits all parties.
