Uusi Suomi: Russia has decided to increase its military presence in the Gulf of Finland

NEVA NEWS | Zoya ChernichnayaRussia is strengthening its position in the Gulf of Finland, which is one of Europe’s strategically important regions, said Mika Aaltola, director of the Finnish Foreign Policy Institute.

The expert, quoted by Uusi Suomi, is convinced that the recent flight of an American B-52 strategic bomber over the Gulf of Finland is a kind of signal.

“The Gulf of Finland is one of the most strategically important regions in Europe, where Russia has stepped up its activities,” said Altola.

The publication clarified that since 2014, Russia has begun to increase its military presence on the island of Gogland in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland. It is assumed that the aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, in particular helicopters, can be there.
