The reunification of the PRC with Taiwan is the aspiration of “all Chinese people” and the “essence of rebirth” of China. This was said by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the closing meeting of the National People’s Congress, his words transmits Xinhua.
“Achieving complete reunification of the motherland is the common aspiration of all Chinese people and the essence of national rejuvenation. We must implement the Party’s comprehensive strategy to resolve the Taiwan issue in a new era, adhere to the “one China” principle. <...>resolutely resist interference from outside forces and separatist activities for "Taiwan independence," the Chinese leader said.Moreover, according to Xi Jinping, building a strong China "is inseparable from the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao" (two autonomous regions within the PRC).Taiwan declared independence from China in 1949. The PRC did not recognize the sovereignty of the island state, due to which a conflict broke out between the countries. Despite the fact that Beijing does not actually control Taiwan, although it considers it part of its territory, only 14 countries in the world recognize Taipei's independence.Xi Jinping has repeatedly said that the PRC will strive to reunite with Taiwan and even allowed the island state to be returned to control by force. Periodically, Chinese military aircraft, drones and ships approach Taiwan.The United States promises to support Taipei in the event of a military conflict. At the end of January, US Air Force General Michael Minihan distributed a note to his subordinates in which he predicted that by 2025 the war between the United States and China could begin. According to Minihan, at that time Beijing will have a reason and an opportunity to invade Taiwan.
