A less confrontational approach to China is taken by part of the European Union summit, led by Charles Michel. Germany, Hungary and Greece are prepared for the total absence of conflict. In Germany, they largely try to avoid confrontation in view of the possible prospects for the development of the automobile industry.
However, the European Union is concerned that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen may support US President Biden. Moreover, in international trade relations, it is the EC which is the controlling body. Such a disparity of opinions can lead to political conflicts within the alliance.
“There is a huge risk of conflict between the United States and China over Taiwan. We are partners with the United States, but we are not a vassal state. We believe that we should not separate completely from China,” stressed one of the MEPs of the European Council.
Earlier, former US President Trump said that in 10 minutes he would persuade the EU to increase aid to Ukraine. According to him, the confrontation between Kiev and Moscow affects the European Union more than America. And it is unfair that the US contribution is much higher than that of EU countries.
