Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

In Belarus, from March 25, a law on the admissibility of the death penalty for civil servants and military personnel will operate – Reuters

The law has already appeared on the specified portal. It should also be noted that the entry into force of the law will take place ten days after the promulgation of the document. According to the document, the death penalty can be used as an exceptional punishment for civil servants and military personnel convicted of treason. In addition, the law provides criminal penalties for offenses such as terrorist propaganda and discrediting the army and other military institutions.

Meanwhile, the text of the law states that persons involved in the preparation of crimes under the articles “sabotage” and “attack against institutions enjoying international protection” can avoid criminal sanctions if they have assisted the organs of the State of Belarus to prevent such crimes (for example, by warning of an impending crime). Another innovation is the appearance of the article “violation of the requirements of the protection of state secrets”, according to which the bearer of state secrets, who illegally and deliberately left the country, will be held criminally liable.

Previously, the law had already been approved by the Parliament of Belarus and signed by President Alexander Lukashenko.
