The start of the first edition of the Universities Men’s Handball Championship

The competitions of the first edition of the Universities Handball Championship, which will be held in the new sports hall at Qatar University, have started and will be concluded on March 21, with the participation of a number of higher education institutions and universities.

A number of senior officials and members of the Board of Directors of the Qatar University Sports Association, and representatives of the participating universities and teams attended the start of the preliminary league competitions. The Men’s Universities Handball Championship is the third event to be held under the umbrella of the Qatar University Sports Federation, according to the federation’s calendar for the 2023 sports season.

The Qatar Foundation Student Center stadiums will host the 2023 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, which started in mid-February and will continue until March 15th. In another sporting scene, the Universities Cricket Championship for Men will continue from February 25 to March 19, 2023 at the Education City Cricket Ground.

This inaugural edition of the university tournaments is witnessing a great turnout and a wide response from higher education institutions in the country with their various boards of directors, teaching staff, and male and female students. Mr. Rashid Odaiba, Secretary General of the Qatar University Sports Federation, explained that the sports calendar of the federation is full of many events and sports tournaments throughout the year 2023, and said: "We aspire for these activities to be more influential in spreading sports culture among male and female students". Odaiba added that the Qatar University Sports Federation will continue its interaction and participation in all national sporting events and community activities that the state organizes annually.
