Finance Minister affirms Qatar’s support for global efforts to manage and prevent debt crises

His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance, participated in the dialogue session entitled "Sustainability of global public debt and the role of major organizations" During the financial sector conference in its second edition, which started its work today in the city of Riyadh in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The dialogue session discussed the high rates of global public debt, the deterioration of public debt sustainability, in addition to the role of national organizations in taming public debt levels. HE the Minister of Finance stressed that Qatar’s financial policy strongly supports the role of the International Monetary Fund, the Group of Twenty, the Paris Club, and other international organizations in helping to manage and prevent debt crises. His Excellency stressed the importance of agreeing on a broader common framework for dealing with debts, adding: "There has been an important shift in the GCC countries of the Arab Gulf states since the 2016 oil price downturn towards medium-term financial planning, and more disciplined debt management practices, through dedicated entities within ministries of finance. This strategy and initiatives have yielded positive results.". It is worth noting that the conference is held under the slogan "Promising financial prospects"With the participation of a group of Their Excellencies ministers, senior leaders and executives of the most prominent international institutions.
