Steel Asia Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a major steel manufacturer, announced that it will introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) system to its Calaca steel factory (Calaca town, Batangas state) to promote automation to increase production volume and improve efficiency. In March, it signed a partnership agreement with Germany’s SМS Group. The efficiency of the plant’s electric furnace and exhaust gas control system will be improved, and the recycling process will also be included to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The factory produces 450,000 tons of rebar products annually with an annual turnover of 18 billion pesos. The company currently operates six steel plants in the country, and will start operations at its seventh steel plant in Compostela, Cebu, by the end of the year. (13th, Manila Times)
