Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said the head of state and Kremlin officials would submit tax returns by April 1, but their publication was not mandatory. On this subject informed CASS.

“Now there is no such obligation, but we will all file,” Peskov said, responding to questions about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin will release his statement this year.

The spokesman noted that the Kremlin does not have a unified position on the release of statements. “But I repeat once again, it is not necessary (publication of a declaration – note RTVI). We start from this first. The main thing is to submit the statement, and the publication is secondary,” Peskov added.

In December 2022, Putin signed a decree that officials’ statements of income, expenditure and property will not be published on departmental websites and in the media during the military operation in Ukraine. Military personnel participating in hostilities and civil servants seconded to new regions of Russia are exempted not only from publishing, but also from providing information on income and expenses.

One of the authors of the bill, the chairman of the State Duma committee on state building, Pavel Krasheninnikov, said that the reason for drafting the bill was the reluctance of “men business or public figures” to be elected to government bodies due to the requirement to file a declaration. “Not everyone is interested in this, not everyone wants to do it – laziness. Someone does not want to show their income,” the MP argued.

According to Putin’s latest statement for 2021, his income amounted to 10,202,616 rubles. The president has an apartment of 77 m². m and a garage of 18 m². m, two “Volga” GAZ M21, one SUV “Niva” and one trailer “Skif”. For Putin’s use is an apartment of 153.7 square meters. m and a garage of 18 m². Mr.
